I would love to swim for exercise. It's low impact, and a full body workout. Unfortunately, I get bored really quickly. Anyone have suggestions to increase the length of my swim?
Absolutely... I had the same problem, but then I got a SwiMP3 V2. You can download MP3s to it (about 60 or so) and it clips to your goggle strap. Best of all, instead of using ear plugs it uses bone conduction - a pad rests against each side of your head near your jaw and transmits the sound through your jaw bone to your ear canal. The sound quality under water is incredible. Now I can do 2 hours of swimming without getting bored. Plus swimming to upbeat music helps me maintain a faster pace.
I get bored to when I'm swimming by myself, I much prefer running. Have you tried swimming with others? If you like that, I found a cool article that may help:
I agree with Richard and the music idea. If you have the waterproof case for your iPod, that works too! I was a competitive swimmer through my high school years, and in my workouts I'd use various tools like kickboards, buoys, fins and paddles to focus on one part of the body and add variety to workouts. I love kicking sets! The next time you go to the pool, bring a friend and a few kickboards and do a 10-minute social kick to chat while working out!
