Best surfing spots in California?

Posted by Kristen D.

Lets get a list of the greatest, and lets not worry about how many comments this posting gets. I'd like to get a list so that all of you on the west coast who enjoy the sport can find out where to catch the best waves near you, or where you might take a day trip or weekend excursion to surf to your heart's (and board's) content. After about two weeks, I'll make another post with a list of what you've come up with and whatever details you can provide and I can find.

Pacifica is a great go-to spot for people living in San Francisco. It's less than 20 minutes from the city and offers pretty good surfing for beginners on up...

Mavericks. Lol jk. If you're down in Los Angeles, I'd recommend all the way from Manhattan Beach to Torrance Beach (including Hermosa and Redondo). PV has some crazy location and world class surf...not recommended though because it crashes on rocks. Down in the OC have some crazy places (Laguna, Huntington, etc). Also, if you're by Camp Pendleton, try San Onofre's surf beach for some nice slow rolling Hawaii-esque waves...GREAT for longboarding. San Clemente has some very very nice waves, but the lines are crazy long.

Good luck with your searches (you can find some crazy places online too)
