Hi my name is Lori. I have a chronic muscle disease I have to deal w/everyday. I know (I've been told stretching is so important to keep range of motion and to prevent contractures.) I have spasticity - this is ridgidity of the muscles (mostly my thigh muscles and I have a very tight heelcord. I do stretch, but not nearly enough. Stretching is not hard, but why does it seem easier said than done?)

Hello Lori,
Sorry to hear about your muscle disease. It must be very difficult for you to strecth daily. I wake up very stiff, the only thing that helps is stretching. When I get a flare-up from fibromyalgia it is even harder. Most people think just lying in bed will help the pain, but honestly, we have to move.
You will be in my prayers and thoughts:)
Viv
Thanks Viv, prayers always help...I'll take as many as I can:) My prayers are with you as well. If you're intersted, I have a blog called PERSEVERE...the URL is persevere-lori.blogspot.com
God bless!
Hi Lori,
It's easier said than done because you're not in the habit of stretching. The dentist has told you to floss and so you do because you know what the alternative is, right? It isn't part of your rutine and so you need to make it that way. Try integrating stretches into your life by printing some out from online or copying from books, pinning them to your bathroom mirror or your bedside table. By putting them somewhere where you'll see them before bed or in the morning, you're more likely to do them and you will notice how good you feel when you do. Associate them with your favorite things, like watching a favorite show and stretching or stretching after a nice hot bath or hot tub. You have to want to be someone who is free from pain also, which is something that not everyone wants or believes they deserve, deep down.
Take care.
