Who needs sleep nowadays?

Posted by Shelley F. Healthy Living Professional

This could be the sign of a dangerous new addiction (though I must admit the sleep deprived side of me was was more than a little curious). Check out this excerpt from an article describing a supplement on the market:

“A nasal spray containing a naturally occurring brain hormone called orexin A reversed the effects of sleep deprivation in monkeys, allowing them to perform like well-rested monkeys on cognitive tests. The discovery’s first application will probably be in treatment of the severe sleep disorder narcolepsy. ”

Something about this kind of freaks me out. Sleep is good, and oh so important, for our bodies to rejuvenate.
This kind of freaks me out too, but I have a feeling that a product like this would actually be very popular in the U.S., given the amount of workaholism that abounds and the fact that the Puritan work ethic and the importance of productivity reign supreme. I think this also goes for young people who just want to go out and party all night without the inconvenience of things like sleepiness setting in. We need to pay more attention to our bodies and decrease the ridiculous demands that allow us to make excuses for poor maintenance!
my mom told me that we should get a deep sleep at night for at least 8hrs so that we get the energy we need in the morning..
I would miss my sleep, I  look forward to my sessions of creative imagery before I nod off.
