When is there time to get organized?

Posted by Ivars R.

When you own your own business (work 24/7), when is there time to organize the house or office? My daughter comes over to the house complaining about the mess, but I explain to her that I always know where everything is. Although, I see her point. To be organized is more than making the piles on my desk neat, rather it is about keeping my life in order... body, mind, and spirit. It is important to be organized and balance, but when do you find the time? I'm sure there are things I can cut out of my day and make time, but it seems so difficult. But also, change is difficult, yet this is a positive change.

My life is attached to and dependent on my planner. I need to start planning today (as in plans will be set in motion in an hour) for the next night! It's really annoying, but once things start piling up and you realize you haven't been to the gym or the grocery store, you understand the value of organization. I'll usually be good for awhile and then need slack time. When I'm in slack mode I try to get out of it, but don't berate myself if I'm not in it too long or too often.
I tend to be on public transportation a lot, so a lot of times, I'm filling out my day planner and figuring out what needs to be done when I'm on a train or bus. I also take time each morning and evening to put things in order and figure out what needs to be done during the day. It helps to have a routine figured out in writing so you can make sure you're feeding yourself--body, mind and spirit.

Hi Ivars R,

To get started.

Plan you day the night before.

Make a list.

Next you need to have an outcome for each day.

As you go through your day use a yellow lighlighter and cross off what you have accomplished from your list.

Look at time wasters:

How often do you check your email? You an change you settings on your email so that you only are notified every 3 hr. or whatever you choose.

Other questions:

Do you have a good breakfast in the morning?

Do you stop to have lunch?

Do you have a healthy dinner?

When do you take a break for yourself?

Do you sleep well at night?

I hope these questions are helpful.

Peace.
