What is the ingredient that warm milk has in it that makes people sleepy?

I was thinking about milk as a natural relaxer in the evening and I think it's suposed to make you relaxed and sleepy when warmed.

So I was wondering if it was true. Just like turkey has. Something like that.

The conventional wisdom is that warming milk releases more of the amino acid tryptophan, which provides a natural and gentle relaxation that makes it easier to fall asleep. I'm just not sure if, when measured, the milk really does have that much tryptophan! Either way, it is  a comforting and pleasurable nightcap before sleep. Smiles, Geoff

Thanks for the reply. I was just wondering. I have a long standing sleep issue.

I think I'll just keep drinking it. It can't hurt....
