Sleeping with a loved one

Posted by C.L. R.

Sometimes, I find it hard to fall asleep when I am in bed with my loved one. There are obvious things like snoring that can keep me up, but then there are other simple things like slight movements that (in my mind) shake the bed.

I found a solution that seems to work out okay - a large pillow barrier. Some might think that defeats the purpose of sleeping with your love, but if you are not a cuddler, you will appreciate the slight distance the pillow puts between the two of you. It can brace your body, so that if they flip over, you won't feel the shake as much. It can prevent them from kicking you if they flip in the night. And most important, you can always just push it out of the way, just in case you just don't care if you're tired the next day!

I agree. My significant other and I both sleep with a body pillow and I also find it helps reduce movement. If you're looking for a new mattress, check out a tempurpedic because it really helps stabilize movement. Even if you are a light sleeper, you won't notice the other getting out of bed or flopping around.
What can you do when your loved one is a chronic sleep talker?
The first thing that came to mind was a white sound situation (ie. fan) and if that doesn't block it out, ear plugs. Or maybe convince your loved one to go do a sleep study to find out what it is that's making him talk in his sleep and hopefully resolve it. If all else fails, leave the tv on. You'll get used to the noise and won't be able to tell the difference. Maybe even try educational programming - who knows? You could wake up a genius and be like, "Wait. When did I learn this?" hahaha
