Sleeping Pills Exposed

Everyone has suffered insomnia at some point and we all know how miserable it can be. Many turn to sleeping pills and tranquilizers to fall asleep. With the numerous commercials, billboards, magazine ads and other advertisements for these drugs, it's no wonder they have become a popular remedy to sleeplessness. The problem is that ANY drug taken to induce sleep can be addictive--making it impossible to sleep well without them. Common side effects of prescription sleep aids like Lunesta and Ambien include the following scary symptoms:
confusion
headache
memory problems
nausea
toxic psychosis (Ambien)
hallucinations (Ambien)
nightmares (Ambien)
disinhibition (Ambien)
If you have serious trouble sleeping that persists beyond 2 weeks, talk with your doctor. If he/she recommends these drugs, ask about safer, natural alternatives like valerian root, lavender tea, aromatherapy, or massage. Also, it is vital that you set aside time for relaxation before bed, at least 30-45 minutes prior to retiring. Reading a calming book, journaling, taking a warm bath, taking a calcium/vitamin D supplement, or meditating can help get you into the mindset required for a good night's sleep. Always go to bed at the same time and rise at the same time and aim for 7 1/2 to 8 1/2 hours of sleep each night.
