It's a Dog's Life

Posted by Patricia S.

My wirehair fox terrier Mitchel and I have been together for almost 4 years now. We're both healthy, happy, and continuing to learn how to live together successfully. Since I rescued Mitchel from an animal shelter, I like to think that I've given him a new "leash" on life by providing him with excellent health care, hardy food, and an unlimited supply of love. I can say with absolute certainty that he has done the same for me. He has taught me that each and every morning a wonderful world awaits. Even if I travel the same path day after day, there's always something new to sniff out. I just need to get out of bed, put on my clothes, and head for the door. He has taught me the delights of mealtime and that good food heals the body, as well as the soul. Even if it's the same menu day after day, food is to be enjoyed and savored - especially peanut butter on a spoon. He has taught me that rolling in freshly cut grass awakens my senses in a way that I never thought possible. He has taught me that chasing after something, even if I never catch it, can be an exhilarating experience. He is yet to catch a cat or a squirrel, but ah! the chase. He has taught me that napping is an art - especially on a Sunday afternoon when I should be doing something far more important. He has taught me that sleeping on the same bed with someone you love keeps the nightmares at bay. And that it is great fun to spoon, even on a hot summer night. With Mitchel by my side, life is beautiful.
