You already know that sleep helps you think quickly and move faster. But did you know that not getting enough sleep affects your voice? There have been studies that show a lack of shuteye constricts the vocal chords - resulting in that raspy, Phyliss Diller voice.
I didn?t need a scientific study to know that sleep affect how we sound to others. I went on the road last year with the Southern rock band, Rebel Pride. For sure, you?d see a rhythm guitarist here or there staying up with Old Granddad, and not the blood relative, either. But the lead singer who had to belt it out each and every day at Daytona's Bike Week? He was down for the count before I even washed off my makeup. When I asked about it, I was told that he knew that ?even more than water, he needs sleep. Sleep is the most important thing for a singer.?
You know the drill: dark, quiet room, no alcohol, no late night meals or exercising, no stressing over money or things. Keep the bedroom clean and clear of non-sleep related items, except for maybe a teddy bear!
