PTSD Professional Perspective Interview: Jean Adrienne

One of the actions I took that had the most enormous impact on my PTSD recovery was the pursuit of joy. Yes, that’s right it sounds crazy, but here’s how I reasoned it:
I needed to feel something absolutely opposite of what I lived in every day. I needed to learn how to overthrow the darkness of PTSD symptoms and shine a little light. While it didn’t feel possible, I decided I wanted to figure out how to access that part of myself that could feel joy. And so, I did.
Learning how to feel joy again was a turning point in my recovery. It allowed me to develop a part of myself that was not ruled by PTSD symptoms. I developed more strength to cope, more will to overcome and more courage to do the work that had to be done.
