Life is naturally regulated by The 80 / 20 RULE

Life is naturally regulated by The 80 / 20 RULE: Apply it to everything.

Have you ever noticed that no matter how many clothes and shoes you own, you still only wear the same 20% all the time? That’s because, life is naturally regulated by The 80/20 RULE!

If you know, understand and start seeing life through this filter, you’ll be able to fine tune and run your life around the best 20% and let go (declutter) of the 80% that you don’t and won’t use ever, anyway! What a savings of time, money, space and energy this is!

Here’s how The 80/20 RULE works and looks like. Everything you do can be divided according to this rule, which says:

- 20 percent of your activities will account for 80 percent of your results,
- 20 percent of your customers will account for 80 percent of your sales,
- 20 percent of your products or services will account for 80 percent of your profits, and
- 20 percent of your tasks will account for 80 percent of the most important value of what you do.
- You only use 20 percent of everything you own. This goes for clothes, shoes and other material items.
- You will only reference 20 percent of the paper you file, 80 percent is outdated and you will never see or use it again.

What this means is that if you have a “to do” list of ten items, two (2) will turn out to be worth as much, or more than the other eight (8) items put together.  (This might be why Hugh Heffner only had two (2) favorite Playboy Bunnies on his arms at any one time. Just a thought!)

Even though all the tasks may take about the same amount of time to do, two (2) of them will be worth more in value towards reaching your goals and improving your life and career than the other eight (8) put together.

So why do so many people always seem to be busy, but don’t seem to accomplish much?  They are most likely working on low value tasks (80%) while procrastinating on those few (20%) that will make a big difference to their business or career.

Don’t let that happen to you.  When prioritizing your “to do” list, for each task ask yourself if it is in the top 20 percent according to its value to your life, or in the bottom 80 percent.

Whatever you choose to do will have a profound effect on your business, your career and your life.

Others will notice whether you are doing “busy work” or getting the important jobs done.  It can ultimately determine your bonuses, promotions, and your career, not to mention your sanity and peace of mind.

And, even if there are no “others” to notice you, you notice. Define and focus on the 20% and stay in the zone of good busy and productive busy and you’ll be giving yourself, and your self-esteem a raise, a promotion and lots of high-fives. We can always have more of all that!

Effectiveness is doing the right things.”
