Don't worry, be happy

Posted by Mary Ann P.

If you want a scientific reason to be happy a recent study at Carnegie Mellon University should give you a good one.

They found that people with a happy outlook were more resistant to colds and flu.

So forget those cold remedies and smile.

To me, happiness is a process and it's something that you can indeed actively work toward feeling and having. I used to always believe that happiness was an impossible ideal because I suffered from depression and anxiety for a long time, but now I realize that if you put your mind to it, joy isn't really all that hard to accomplish. Here are just some of the things that give me that inner glow:

1) Being of service to others. I know this sounds cheesy, but it's true, perhaps because it forces you to get outside your little life and understand that there's a world out there that's much, much bigger than your problems.

2) Meditation and yoga.

3) Having some quiet time to myself reading or listening to music.

4) Frequent getaways to places that are beautiful, serene, and surrounded by nature.

5) A sense of purpose, such as a project towork on.
