Children's Illness Increases with Family-Related Stress

Posted by Nirmala N.

You might think stress is a major factor only in the lives of adults, but a new study from the University of Rochester, NY, asserts that stress and illness go hand in hand among young children. According to researchers, there's an association between family-related stress and the performance of a child's immune system. Children's natural killer cell function actually increases under stress, while adult stress reduces the same function. The onset of fever is often the first sign of a reduced immune system, and children with a tendency for repeated sickness over a short period of time often were in environments with high parental and family stress.
