Growing up, many of us were probably taught to be a “good sport” when we were faced with a loss. We should be kind to others and gracious. But, what if that loss isn’t something minor in the entire scheme of life such as in a team sport or a promotion at work? What if that loss was the death of someone we love? Could you use your loss to help someone win?
As survivors suffering with PTSD, everyday life can be difficult. I know first hand that the physical ailments I suffered from PTSD made even the simplest of tasks seem difficult at times. Why couldn’t it be easier?
There were so many treatment options available that finding the one that worked for me was difficult. And, to make it more frustrating, there were options that I didn’t even know existed when I started my search! It took time. It took determination. It took patience. Once I did find an option I wanted to try, finding someone who had worked with a PTSD survivor was another journey in itself.
I have thought about how much easier it might have been had different treatment options been readily available, all listed in a neatly organized package. I could have simply chosen a treatment option, a person experienced with PTSD, and my entire journey may have been a little less bumpy. But, since it wasn’t, I had to do it on my own. Luckily, I had time. For many, time is not an option. So, is there a neat little package available for our transitioning veterans to help them with PTSD recovery that explores options and makes the transition less complicated?
Yes, there is! And, it is all in a neat little package that Roxann Abrams calls “Veteran Intervention Plan.” What an innovative idea!! This is the first broad-based combination treatment program created specifically for returning soldiers suffering with PTSD and TBI’s.
My next guest on Your Life After Trauma , Roxann Abrams, is using her loss to assist transitioning veterans win their fight with PTSD and TBI. After three tours in Iraq and suffering from PTSD, Roxann’s son committed suicide. As an accomplished lawyer and entrepreneur, Roxann decided to use her professional and personal experience to found a non-profit organization that offers the resources that transitioning veterans need when returning home.
Roxann will discuss her organization and outline their work on our next episode later today at 2pm EST/11am PST.
