These sleeping tips will help you to get balance in your life. Without good sleep or having insomnia it is difficult to have balance in your life and your stress levels increase.
In my own life, when I have not been sleeping well I have found that my health – both mental and physical is affected. The following sleeping techniques will help you to keep balance and therefore cope with stress better:
Five Sleeping Tips For Balance
1. Exercise During The Day
When the body is tired physically it sleeps so much better. Getting outside for a walk or for some exercise during the day can be the difference between lying awake at night or falling straight to sleep. But make sure you don’t do strenuous exercise just before bed as this is likely to keep you awake.
If you feel that you are too tired during the day to do exercise ask yourself this, “Is it my mind that is tired or my body?” Whenever I have asked myself this question invariably I find that it is my mind and not my body which is tired. And I see that a tired mind needs exercise so I will go out for a walk or go for a run.
2. Visualisations – Relaxing White Light
While you are lying in bed visualise a white light at the top of your head. With every in breath, breathe this white light into your body. Allow the light to enter into the top of your crown. As soon as the white light is breathed into that part of the body you become relaxed and calm; all tension is washed away. Imagine this light being breathed down your whole body, slowly, bit by bit.
Breathe deeply and relax. Let go and allow yourself to sink deeper into your bed – feeling at peace with the world. Breathe this light through every part of your body until you reach your toes. Then imagine this light all around you, protecting you, relaxing you and keeping you safe from harm.
3. Breathing Techniques For Sleep
This breathing technique is one of the best sleeping tips and can be used at any time of the day.
Exercise: While lying on your back in bed place your hand on your stomach. Breathe into your stomach and feel with your hands the rise and fall of the stomach. Feel relaxed and calm and let go of any tension
4. Doing Positive Affirmations
The mind is a powerful tool. When you use it in a positive way it can truly change your life. Affirmations are a way of reprogramming the mind to think positive thoughts. And this can be used magnificently to help you sleep.
While lying in bed repeat relaxing words to yourself (and the trick is to really feel these words deep inside of you – feel relaxed, feel calm, feel sleepy):
• I sleep so deeply and wake refreshed
• I am so happy and content
• I am coping wonderfully well
• I am relaxed and calm
• I feel so sleepy
• I sleep so well
• I love being in bed
• I love breathing in and out deeply
But understand that you don’t have to believe them for them to work. Repeat them and feel relaxed, feel great. When you are repeating and feeling positive words then you can’t be focussed on the negative.
5. Keep Your Bedroom Tidy
If your bedroom is messy then you won’t feel as relaxed and calm as a beautifully cared for space. And therefore you won’t sleep as well.
A messy house makes for a messy mind…A clean and tranquil space makes for a clean and tranquil mind...
You will find these principals in the Chinese system of Feng Shui, which teach about how the external world – our house, our office reflect our inner happiness... Take time to tidy up your external world and it will make it that much easier to clean your internal world. And in this example it will mean that you will sleep so much more soundly.
