Personal Trainer in San Diego uses the Bulgarian Bag for the first time.

Ouch!  What a daunting experience the Bulgarian Bag workout has been for me; And i thought I aerobic levels were better than most. Think again. With heart rates averaging in the mid 180s (which is 100% of my heart rate reserve) I actually felt like I was on the mat wrestling an Olympic Wrestler, and getting the ass whooping of my life..

 The Bulgarian Bag was invented by Ivan Ivanov 7 years ago.  Ivanov is a former highly accomplished,  Bulgarian Greco-Roman Olympic athlete who created the Bulgarian Bag as a training tool to improve the explosive strength of wrestlers he was training. I watched his training videos on YouTube and got super inspired. I dropped $180 and purchased my very own 27 pound, made in Bulgaria, Bulgarian bag. Expensive, but when you look at the quality of the product you will understand. 

Anyway, I thought Crossfit was tough and challenging, but no comparison. I have been CrossFitting weekly since 2008, and can honestly say, that I have not been physically peaked out, to the extent of what the Bulgarian bag workout. The Bulgarian Bag brought me to my knees and left me heaving.

My first intro workout was a full hour of sweat, extreme tachycardia, and a copious amount of posterior chain muscle soreness involving the deltoids, triceps, forearm flexors, back erectors  rectus abs and abdominal obliques. The objective of the first workout was to refine form and technique with my movements. It takes practice, practice and a good set of lungs. So much for my traditional resistance training exercises, cross fit and spin classes. 

I have decided to train 6 days per week with the Bulgarian bag for the next two months. My prediction is a 15 pound weight loss and 4% drop in body composition.
