Saturday night sees an historic night for the sport of mixed martial arts as the world's biggest MMA promotion, the UFC, hosts its first-ever women's MMA bout. Bigger still, it's a world title fight. And it's the main event of the evening. The bout, between Ronda Rousey and Liz Carmouche, has attracted widespread media attention across America as the bout has captured the imagination of the press in the States.
Ronda Rousey is set to defend her UFC women's bantamweight title for the first time, and she will try to do so against Liz Carmouche in the UFC 157 main event.
After becoming the final Strikeforce women's bantamweight champion, Rousey was awarded her belt upon the announcement that female fighters would be joining the UFC roster.

In addition to the women's bantamweight title fight, an important light heavyweight fight between Lyoto Machida and Dan Henderson will also take place at UFC 157.
Machida and Henderson are currently considered the top two contenders in the 205-pound division, so the winner of Saturday's fight could be next in line for a shot at the winner of an upcoming title fight between Jon Jones and Chael Sonnen.
