The Philadelphia Flyers open their six game road trip when they visit the Toronto Maple Leafs on Monday night.

The Flyers' season got off to a torrid 0-3 start, but the team has since leveled out and is enjoying a 3-0-1 start that has catapulted them out of the basement of the Atlantic division. In their most recent match, Philadelphia pulled out a clutch 4-3 overtime win over the Carolina Hurricanes on home ice. The Hurricanes took a 1-0 lead just 17 seconds into the game when they lost a faceoff and Jiri Tlusty picked up a rebound in the slot. Brayden Schenn died the score for the Flyers at the 13:52 mark to end the first period in a 1-1 draw. Matt Read gave Philadelphia the lead just 1:33 into the second frame, but Jeff Skinner restored the tie at the 11:17 mark for Carolina. Jakub Voracek restored the Philly lead but Joe Corvo scored at the 7:58 mark of the third period to give Carolina a 3-3 tie. In overtime, Danny Briere scored to give the Flyers the win.

The team was proud of the victory and its run during the four game home stand. "We wanted to take control of these four home games and I think we did well," Read said. "We lost one point against Florida the other night which I think shouldn't happen, but to take seven of eight, you can't complain and you move forward from here."

The Maple Leafs are coming off a satisfying 6-0 drubbing of the Montreal Canadiens. Coach Randy Carlyle was proud of the effort which showcased a three point night from Phil Kessel (one goal, two assists), a two point night from James Van Riemsdyk (one goal, one assist) and a 37 save effort from James Reimer.

"We did a lot of things in the first 10 minutes that kind of set the tone for our group for the rest of the night," said Carlyle." We got the two-goal lead and then you know they're going to push back."

The only negative to arise from this match was an alleged biting incident between Mikhail Grabovski and Max Pacioretty of the Canadiens. While the Canadiens complained that Grabovski's actions should not have taken place, Carlyle felt that the team needed to defend itself.

"We've got to take care of our own selves and we've got to look after business," the coach said. "And all the complaining that they want to do about it, the whole thing was started by what we felt was one player."

He added, "Well, [Brandon] Prust, we know what kind of player he is and he goes out and cheap shots Grabovski. Well, what are we supposed to do? We're not supposed to play the rest of our players for the rest of the night? Well, they've got another thing coming. That's not happening to our group."

Grabovski will have a hearing on Monday to see what disciplinary action is taken against him.

This is the first of three meetings between these clubs. Last season, the Flyers won all four games.
