Spinning turns back to roots as a venue for training cyclists

Posted by Nancy B.

There's a new trend in health clubs to take spinning back to its roots. It started out as a way for determined cyclists to train without risking perils of riding outdoors. When spinning reached the masses in the mid-90s, classes began being gimmicky -- a turn off for the serious cyclist. "You usually see each other in a group setting with the same teacher, so there's support," said Dr. Kevin Plancher, an orthopedic surgeon and associate clinical professor at Albert Einstein College of Medicine, in a New York Times article. "It has now become a team sport, the same way the Tour de France is a team sport." http://www.nytimes.com/2007/05/24/fashion/24Fitness.html
