Dear Dr Kathy,
When I was age 4, my grandmother passed away from cancer. Less then a week later my parents came home late and came into my room to check on me. Mom and Dad told me that they heard me talking to someone in my sleep (only I wasn’t sleeping). It was my grandmother who passed away and on occasion I can smell her perfume in the house. From that day on I can see ghosts and oftentimes I would see my dead family members. I also seem to know when a person has passed away. I either sense it or I’ll see that person in a dream. When my Dad passed away in the hospital, I was asleep and woke up gasping for air. Then I saw my dad appear and I knew he had passed on. Is this normal, Is this some sort of gift or do you think its evil?

Dear Danielle,
It appears you may have a gift of discernment. As long as the spirits you see are mostly family and they make no attempts to threaten you or hurt you, then its a gift. You may be the new Ghost Whisperer that helps family members transition to the other side. Only you and God know what the purpose of this gift will be and more will be revealed as you continue to advance spiritually. Because you were open to the appearance of your grandmother at such an early age (and your parents did not discourage this), you tapped into the 6th sense of which we all have, we just tend to dismiss it. Children have such a vivid imagination, they don’t question or try to rationalize, they just go with the flow. I don’t believe you are evil in any way, just more spiritually advanced then most….that part, unfortunately is not the norm.
