How to fall asleep when you don't feel sleepy

Posted Mar 17 2009 4:01am

can't sleep

Is it time to go to sleep and you don't feel sleepy? You know if you don't sleep now you can't get up early and that means losing your job! But you don’t feel sleepy and if you go to bed you have to roll in bed for a few hours. Here's the point: you are not tired enough to fall asleep. In this post, I want to share my experience with you, and tell you what to do to sleep on time.
If you have got up early (around 6am) and have done a medium amount of work, you should be tired enough to go to bed about 9pm or 10pm. For most people, it's 8-10 hours of work, about one hour of exercise, plus some extra activity like hanging out or studying. For most people who have a 9 to 5 job, I recommend exercising in the evening. You can go to a gym or jog for an hour in a park around 6pm. As I have explained in the article " seven tips for sleep and exercise", most people get sleepy about three hours after working out. With a full day of work and one hour of jogging in the evening you should be tired enough to fall asleep easily.
If you are on your regular schedule (not on a trip for example) and you still have problem, it might be due to the conditions of your bedroom, or you might be suffering from insomnia. Follow the tips in the article "Seven tips to triple the quality of your sleep by creating the ideal bedrom conditions" and make your bedroom ideal for sleeping. If you think you have a sleep disorder, have a look at this article: "10 lifestyle tips that treat insomnia". It has ten easy tips for you to overcome insomnia. However, in serious cases it is recommended to visit a doctor.
Go ahead and follow the tips. Don't forget to let me know about the results.
