When I was a high school student, I used to get sleepy during the day usually around 11 am. I started to yawn in the class, and my teachers went mad. When I graduated from college and started to work, this problem came back. I felt sleepy the whole day, and usually yawned in the meetings. It's not good to yawn in front of your boss and the guests of the company in a meeting. I have a few tips to avoid yawning during the day. By following these tips, I reduced yawning and my performance at work improved dramatically: 1. Get enough night sleep: You need 8 hours of sleep for your mental and physical health. You should have a deep sleep to feel fresh in the morning.
2. Do not starve yourself: Empty stomach is one of the main causes of sleepiness and yawning during the day. In the article " sleep tips for fitness", I have explained the relationship between sleep and food regarding hormone release. Food has an impact on release of the hormones that control sleepiness. If you are hungry, your body releases some hormones that make you sleepy. Never keep your stomach empty. If you feel hungry, go and get something to eat.
3. Avoid daydream : When you are not concentrating, and your thoughts begin to stray, you are daydreaming. It means that your brain is not active enough to keep you awake, so you would feel sleepy soon, and start to yawn. Try to concentrate on what you are doing, and don't let yourself daydream.
4. Do not lounge in your chair: Sit straight in front of your chair. This position keeps you from getting sleepy.
5. Breathe fresh air : Your brain and all organs of your body need oxygen to work. Breathing fresh air would help your brain work. 6. Chew gum if you feel sleepy: It would help you overcome sleepiness and stop yawning. 7. Wash your face with cold water: Cold water makes you get fresh. It removes any feeling like sleeping.
Try to follow these tips and make your office a place for work with fresh air, proper chair, and nice atmosphere. If you have tried other tips and they have worked, please write them down here in a comment. You and I together can make a 10-tip list!
