What causes red, scaley, dry feet?

I had a baby in May 2008, just prior to that I noticed a couple of dry, scaly areas on my feet, which I immediately attributed to some sort of hormonal imbalance due to my pregnancy.  Since then, my feet have gotten progressively worse.  They do not itch but have huge scaley, red patches in the arch area and they look terrible!.  Today I noticed that I have the beginnings of a small patch on my right thumb and palm.  What is going on?  Could it be athlete's foot with no itch or some sort of thyroid deficiency?
