Weight Gain After Tummy Tuck Question

Posted Oct 16 2005 12:00am

I visit forums other than my own less frequently now than in years gone by. This question is a common one concerning fat returning after a tummy tuck:

The Post:

Almost a year ago I had a FTT that had to have revisions 14 weeks after but>>>>>>Now I am growing these square “pads” of fat just above my butt cheeks on my lower back!!!!

My Reply:

This is the reason I emphasize the stability of weight before a tummy tuck or liposuction. People that gain and lose more than a little weight (3-5 lbs) frequently are the ones that have this “migrating fat” phenomenon after large scale body contouring surgery. They are also the ones that have little if any improvement after small scale liposuction. I tell people this on the “front end” of course.

A Tummy Tuck will not help you lose weight or assist you in keeping it off. It is a contouring procedure only.

Best Regards,

John Di Saia MD

P.S. This relates to my former post “.”
