Is there such a thing as sensitive skin bar soap? Many bar soaps claim to be super sensitive on skin but a closer look at the ingredients tell a different story. Ingredients such as:
Sodium tallowate-the fat renderings from meat processing which may contain pesticides and hormones from the animal.
Tetrasodium EDTA-possible carcinogen and skin toxicant.
Sodium Silicate-animal studies show sense organ effects at very low doses and also a skin toxicant.
Fragrance-this general term can hide a lot of chemicals used in making the scent like formaldehyde and pthalates.
Many of these chemicals used in making bar soap actually irritate the skin so it doesn't make sense that it would help sensitive skin.
Better choices would be ingredients such as olive oil, sunflower oil, safflower oil or shea butter. Also look for essential oils which are oils extracted directly from the plant. Unscented products can also be a good choice for people with sensitive skin. Certified organic ingredients are a must in keeping pesticides, hormones and other chemicals out of your sensitive bar of soap.
