Forbes Does A Piece On Dermal Fillers

Posted Jul 01 2009 12:00am

But today, a range of dermal fillers can be injected into those crow’s feet, marionette lines, thinning lips and furrows between the brows, taking years off the face–and all can be done during your lunch hour, with no invasive surgery and little recovery time.

I love how the press tends to make it seem like Dermal Fillers are the solution for which we have all been waiting. They make it an issue of just “choosing the right one.”

The here is that dermal fillers are pretty new on the scene as we don’t know much about how the ones we use today will age with the patients who choose to have them. Collagen, which we used in the eighties, didn’t last very long. I saw in a few cases over the years how elevating the tissues in a facelift seemed harder in some patients who had had a lot of Collagen, so I use fillers sparingly. Silicone gel was permanent but caused scary reactions (and is illegal in the United States at least.)

I lean toward hyaluronic acid based fillers like Prevelle. They don’t last too long but seem safe. And as usual I advise moderation. These things are probably Ok as long as you don’t go nuts with them.

Best Regards,

John Di Saia MD
