Dermabond or Sutures?

Posted Nov 03 2009 12:00am

Dermabond is a tissue glue used in surgery for the skin. When it first came out it was promoted as an alternative to sutures. Patients may ask about it to avoid discomfort and other times to avoid scars.

I have used it for as long as it has been available and would not recommend its use instead of sutures very often unless good surgical talent is not available. I do occasionally use it as a support (like steri-strips) over a wound that has been sutured. In this regard it can work pretty well.

Best Regards,
