What can I do to encourage my ear piercing to heal?

I had my ears pierced over 6 months ago and they still aren't completely healed. They haven't been infected or anything and don't bother me, but I would like to be able to change my earrings some day.

My daughter got a 104 fever 2 days after getting her ears pierced. They are not infected. Why would she get a fever?
