Wearable Makeup Trends From The 2011 Golden Globe Awards

Posted Jan 16 2011 10:21pm
Before I get into the beauty part of my Golden Globe blog, can we just take a moment of silence to stare at this Hollywood royalty couple? Brad and Angelina are just sooo stunning together...sigh;-)  How do they look so relaxed and put together when they have a ba-zillion children at home? Maybe that's the key, their kids are at home and not there!  AH - HA!!

Okay, so the Golden Globes are my favorite of all the award shows because all the celebs seem to  genuinely be having a wonderful time!! It doesn't feel as stuffy as the Oscars, where they all just sit in their seats with their hands in their laps, staring at the stage.  They get to mix and mingle at circular tables (which lends to a more casual friendly feel I think) while also getting to enjoy some wine and bubbly!!

I think the female celebrities were pulling out all the stops this year, everyone really looked fabulous.  And of course I was admiring all the different makeup looks and wondering which ones I want to try out tomorrow!

Here were my top favorite and most wearable looks from the night.

1.  Pearly champagne lips.  Everyone from Eva Longoria to Angelina Jolie were rocking this shimmery neutral lip color. This type of lip looks best worn alone with no harsh lip liner.  And it goes perfectly with smokey and very dramatic eyes! Try Smashbox Lip Enhancing gloss in color Illume ($18) for this easy lip look.

2.  Mysteriously smoky eyes.  Halle Berry wore this classically sexy eye very well- but then again there's not a lot this woman doesn't wear well.  The essentials for re-creating this type of eye are as follows. 1. dark black chubby liner on the top and lower lash line 2. deep warm brown shadow from lash line to slightly above the crease, try Lancome's color design sensational effects eye shadow in "couture"  ($17) 3.  dark gray or black shadow that should be smudged over the top and bottom liners and just in crease  4.  and of course, lots and lots of black mascara!

3.  Silver eyes.  Jennifer Lopez's eyes were the first thing I noticed when I saw her walking the red carpet before the actual award show started.  I love how ice princess she looked with these silver eyes! I'm going to give this a try with my Kat Von D Love and Fury palette  ($24).  This palette has 3 different shades of silver, one white (albino), one white with a light blue undertone (holy bible), then a cream silver called (slayer).  And to top off the silver look, you just add a line of black liquid liner only on top, wing it up slightly, and add lots of lashes!

And although everyone looked pretty fabulous throughout the night, there are always a few fashion and beauty mishaps to slip through the cracks.

Um hem, Helena Bonham Carter and her wacky messy hair and outfit (was she really wearing two different colored shoes?)  Poor thing, this crazy bag lady look is getting kind of old, but I feel really bad for her that it looks like they seated her next to super uber gorgeous Georgina Chapman!! Georgina would make anyone else look not so pretty when compared to her!  Here is a fun link I found off the BellaSugar website, highlighting  Golden Globe Missteps in fashion and beauty- you know, the "Oops, what was she thinking?!"

Who was your favorite Globe look of the night and who was your "oops" look?
