Style United by P&G Beauty People’s Choice Awards party recap

Posted Jan 10 2013 8:45pm

And the awards season has officially begun!

The girls at our P&G Beauty party!

The girls at our P&G Beauty party!

Did you watch the People’s Choice Awards last night? A few of my friends came over for the Style United by P&G Beauty party I told you all about, and we drank champagne and wine, nibbled on sushi, and had P&G Beauty hairstylist Gilbert Muniz of Salon 90210 (he’s on Twitter at @HairByGilbert) take us through a few of his favorite red carpet looks and beauty predictions.

With P&G Beauty hairstylist Gilbert Muniz!

This might sound silly, but I sometimes forget how cool and fun beauty is, especially for my own friends. I’m surrounded by products, tips, tricks and trends all day, so I just assume that everybody else in my life is, too. But my friends were MESMERIZED as they watched Gilbert work his magic.

I have about 75 photos from the evening of all the girls crowded around Gilbert as he worked

And, yes, it is still Christmas in the Jolie household—and it probably will be until February!

The girls wanted to learn how to do a sock bun, so: voila!

Gilbert predicted lots of high ponytails and buns for the 2013 Red Carpets, with hair pulled back away from the face (so much for my bangs idea!), side parts, rock ‘n roll waves, and a move away from the ombre trend toward solid colors and single processes. “You can’t go wrong with old Hollywood-glam!” he told us.

My friend Jamie is getting married soon, and Gilbert walked her through a romantic loose up-do that she loved and is now considering for her wedding. The trick? Curl the hair and then work in sections, pinning and twisting as you go. “Think in sections,” he said, ”and don’t work with your hair all at once. Give your hair a good foundation, too, because if hair is too clean, it’s more likely to collapse.”

Don’t worry Gilbert, me and my 3-days-dirty hair are way ahead of you on that one.

Gilbert’s Red Carpet Must-Haves:

-       Strong-hold hair spray (like Pantene Lasting Volume Hairspray)

-       Bobby pins

-       Mousse (for body and bounce, like Pantene Triple-Action Volume Mousse)

-       Gel (for all-day control, hold and structure, like Pantene Weightless Body Building Gel)

-       Heat protection spray (to shield it from the heat, like Pantene Heat Protection Shine Spray)

Another cool trick that Gilbert passed along: spritz a clean mascara wand with hairspray. Run it over your hairline and it’ll smooth down loose frizzies. Love it!

At the end of the night, my friends got their P&G Beauty gift bags, which featured Puffs Ultra Soft & Strong tissues, an Olay + Venus Razor, Pantene Expert Collection AgeDefy shampoo, conditioner, heat protectant spray, gel and shaping hairspray, Vidal Sassoon Pro Series Crème Color Glass, and Olay Ultra Moisture 24 Hour Body Wash. My friend M. was tickled pink (literally: she got so excited she turned bright red!) to win the $100 Spa Finder gift card.

A red-carpet must: Crest 3D Whitestrips! (Man, oh, man, I am in desperate need of these babies right now.)

Thanks to Style United and P&G Beauty for a great night, and I hope you had as much fun watching the People’s Choice Awards as we did!

Disclosure: While this post was sponsored by P&G Beauty, as always, all opinions remain my own.
