Runway Looks Real People Can Pull Off

Posted Oct 11 2012 9:36am
Usually runway makeup is a bit over exaggerated just for effect (the crowd needs to be able to see their faces thru all of those flash bulbs and lights right?).  There were a handful of Fall 2012 runway shows though that had some looks that us average Josephines could actually pull off in our every day lives!  Here are 5 wearable looks to try now...

 {Derek Lam, via. Soft smokey eyes. }

How it works : This smokey eye should be done with the same dark neutral shade on upper and lower lash line with no eye liner, which is what makes it wearable, soft, and easy.  I would use L'Oreal Infallible shadow in "bronzed taupe" which I used in this look here and here.  Finish with lots of mascara on upper and lower lash line and with a mauve or pink lip gloss.

 {Michael Kors, via.  Double duty lips  + cheeks.}

How it works : Although I would not go quite as crazy on the blush where it looks like you have chapped cheeks from skiing in the Alps with no mask on, this can be a beautiful flushed look with matching lips.  I would try Nars the Multiple Stick in "Orgasm" to kill two birds with one stone on your cheeks and lip color!  Then I would apply two coats of mascara only on the upper lashes along with a beige shimmer shadow to finish.
 {Sophia Theallet, via.  Wrapped low ponytail.}

How it works :  Of course this works only if you have medium to long hair (or a hair piece in!). But nothing is easier and looks more polished than a slightly messy wrapped ponytail.  Tease the crown of your hair first, then gather the hair into a low pony.  Leave a strand of hair out from underneath. Then wrap the pony with a thin elastic band, finishing by taking the leftover strand and wrapping it around the elastic then securing with a couple bobby pins underneath.
{Jason Wu, via . Greenish blue shadow + neutral cheeks and lips.}

How it works : A combo of a greenish blue eye shadow works with every single eye color out there!! To mimic this mermaid look, try this all in one product, " The Dangerous Palette " by Urban Decay. It's got your golds for the tear duct area, and your green and navy to go over the lash to crease area!
{Victoria Beckham - Precise red lips and nothing else.}

How it works :  Matte red lips scream sophisticated, elegant, and confident as mentioned yesterday here.  Pair with a clean strong brow and minimal makeup, and you've probably got the easiest look to pull off right here! But yet you still will look completely put together!
Now on the flip side of realistic runway makeup just for fun.
The look us real people CANNOT and SHOULD NOT try to pull off...
