Review :: Pai Camellia & Rose Organic Gentle Hydrating Cleanser And Avocado & Jojoba Facial Moisturizer

Posted Mar 03 2011 10:50am
I first emailed with Pai Organic Skin Care in the Fall of '08 and they sent us a sample of their Avocado & Jojoba Organic Facial Moisturizer .  As much as I liked the ingredients, the way it made my skin feel and their Soil Association organic certification , I just couldn't get over the fact that I thought the moisturizer was stinky - like wet clothes that are left in the washing machine too long.  Not exactly something I want my face to smell like.  So, I passed on writing a review about it and put it in the drawer of products that don't make the cut.  Fast forward two and a half years - Pai contacted me again and asked if I would review their products so they sent two and I sniffed them upon arrival as I typically do, and surprise surprise....stinky smell was gone!!

You see, in the years since that first product test I learned that the very beneficial manuka oil/honey stinks like wet clothes left too long in the washer; so I wrinkle my nose whenever I get a whiff of it now and know instantly what is making a product smell like that.  Pai made no mention of them changing the ingredients and I didn't have the original ingredient list so I emailed my contact a few weeks ago to ask "by any chance did your moisturizer used to contain manuka because I don't smell it in this version" and she replied quickly with "good nose!" and indicated they also weren't satisfied with the product's "scent profile" so they omitted the ingredient.  And I'm glad they did because this is a really great moisturizer for all skin types and I really like this new, soft, fresh aroma too!  It easily absorbs and leave behind baby soft skin. Is it their best-seller

Pai's Camellia & Rose Gentle Hydrating Cleanser is a nice treat for parched skin and is hailed as a favorite amongst sensitive skin types because it's extremely gentle.  This feels and looks like a lightweight lotion, no foaming action here, which dehydrated skin loves.  The thing I really like is that it comes with a organic cotton muslin face cloth that it a genius idea for cream based cleansers because more often than not, they can leave a residue.  Not only does this cool cloth remove excess cleanser residue, it exfoliates the skin and does a great job at removing eye makeup, which is welcome news, especially after my eye makeover remover article and the different opinions shared in the comments.  The combination of this cleanser and the muslin cloth make it so that another eye makeup remover products isn't necessary at all.  This has a light, feminine rose aroma.

After years of suffering from bad allergies, Pai's Founder, Sarah Brown decided to make her own products.  She has an informative blog , her products are Certified Organic by UK's Soil Association and of course I like what they don't put into their products . I wanted more clarification about their "coconut & corn-derived emulsifier" that is in both the moisturizer and cleanser, so I emailed Pai and got a response from Sarah indicating they use a combination of cetearyl alcohol and cetearyl glucoside.  They are sensitive skin experts at Pai so if you have this skin type be sure to check them out.
