Review :: My New Favorite Lemongrass Sugar Facial Scrub From Indigo Wild - Zum Face Organic Skin Care Is Simply Impressive + To
Posted Mar 05 2010 8:23am
If I had a nickel for every time someone asked me to recommend an affordable + effective + organic skin care line I would have a lot more money. That's not an entirely easy question to answer since most products I've tried that are actually organic and actually effective are not what most would consider affordable (and my personal faves tend to be in the higher dollar bracket). I've had my eye on these products for some time, since they popped up in Indigo Wild's Zum Lab last year, a place they try out new product ideas for a discounted price so they can see what type of response they get. Recently Zum Face moved out of the lab into prime time. I hadn't tried any of their new facial products until now, although I've been a big fan of their wonderfully-scented bar and liquid soaps for at least five years.
One word: WOW!
For those of you who are die-hard Suki Exfoliate Foaming Cleanser fans (and I know there are many, I was one of them) you may be happy to know that I haven't found anything comparable since I stopped using the brand almost one year ago for ethical reasons. My search is over people! I'm here to tell you that this scrub reminds me of that cleanser very, very much, I get the same results with it (ultra clear skin), it feels like a scrub but quickly melts into a slight lemony foam, smells like candy AND get this - its less than half the price - for a larger size (1 more ounce). H-e-l-l-o! Its simply a no-brainer for me. We're all trying to hold on to our dollars longer and make them stretch further.
My face hasn't been this clear in a long time and its evident my skin was in great need of decent exfoliation to slough off some of that dead winter skin (lovely, I know). I've been using this once a day, every night for the past week right after I use the Zum Face Lemon-Geranium Facial Gentle Facial Cleanser. I then squeeze a small amount (the size of a nickel) of Zum Face Lemon-Geranium Toner and apply it to my damp face, which is entirely refreshing. There was no transition period, no waiting - I noticed a positive difference in my skin the very next day.
The aroma of the Gentle Facial Cleanser and Toner is not overtly feminine so if you and your man share facial products (like my husband and I do) then he won't mind the smell of these as they are gender-neutral. I don't get a strong whiff of geranium (which I find to be an entirely feminine scent), as much as I do of woodsy-ness and citrus. The cleanser foams generously and my skin feels clean after using it. It doesn't feel stripped of moisture, nor insanely hydrated (but I'm using a high-powered moisturizer right now that I'm loving and will share with you all soon). I would say this is probably a great foaming facial cleanser for any skin type. The Toner is refreshing and though I definitely smell the witch hazel (which my man banned me from using awhile back asserting that it smells like bacon - to which I realized he had a point), it in no way reminds me of either of us of bacon and instead I smell what may be cedarwood essential oil, which has antiseptic and clarifying qualities when applied to the skin.
And here's another lovely thing, the ingredients. Check 'em
Lemongrass Sugar Facial Scrub 5 oz ($12)
Certified organic cane sugar, saponified oils of certified organic coconut, certified organic olive, castor, and certified organic jojoba, essential oils, tocopherol (vitamin E), sodium borate and vegetable glycerin.
Gentle Lemon-Geranium Facial Cleanser 4 oz ($10)
Saponified oils of certified organic coconut, certified organic olive, castor, and certified organic jojoba, pure essential oils, tocopherol (vitamin e), sodium borate and vegetable glycerin.
These are all sure to last at least one month, possibly two and for these prices, that's entirely great news.
Important Tip: When using the scrub, wet your face, scoop out say 1/2 dime size of scrub and rub between your wet palms until the sugar granules almost melt and you see a bit of foam. VERY, VERY GENTLY massage your entire face and neck with it and leave on your skin for 30 seconds to 1 minute. Rinse off, pat skin dry and apply toner. Please DO NOT scrub your skin like you are scrubbing the grout in your shower or like its sandpaper and you are refinishing a piece of furniture. Your skin will be raw and red and that is no way to treat your skin. Gentle, gentle, gentle is the key here!
I highly recommend all three of these products but my absolute fave is the Lemongrass Sugar Face Scrub !! Go get thyself some and do tell me what you think!! I believe you'll be pleasantly surprised by the way your skin feels baby skin smooth and has a clarity you may not have seen in awhile.
Happy Friday all!
