Review :: By Elizabeth Dehn Skin Care ~ Naturally Luxe Beauty For All Skin Types

Posted May 17 2011 3:29pm

When I discovered beauty editor Elizabeth Dehn  of Beauty Bets launched her own skincare line last month of course I took notice.  I know first hand beauty writers receive and test massive amounts of good/bad/ugly product and chances are they know a good product when they see/touch/smell/use one, especially Elizabeth, who has been doing so for the past 10 years.  So of course I knew she would be keenly honed in to what she deemed to be nothing short of amazing, especially if the products were emblazened with her namesake.  And when the synergy of fabulously-branded packaging, skin-pampering products and good-for-you ingredients come together, it is a beautiful thing.

"I couldn’t stop thinking about what I REALLY wanted out of beauty products: That elusive combination of healthy, all-natural ingredients, effective formulas that actually DO SOMETHING, and pretty, pretty packaging." ~Elizabeth Dehn
No matter what the old adage is, we do indeed judge a book by its cover.  By Elizabeth Dehn products are a shining example of how looks do indeed matter.  Aesthetic is how you get noticed and performance is how you acquire groupies.  The trio are all housed in fogged glass bottles and the branding is clean, timeless, sophisticated, and gorgeously executed.  Think Viceroy Hotel & Resort  in a bottle.

One thing I love is that these products are not overtly natural and you won't find even a hint of crunchiness.  Their natural quotient is not splashed across the labels and only upon perusal of the back of the label would you be aware of the ultra clean ingredient decks.  These are not one of those "this is great....for a natural product" brands, these are simply great.  I get the distinct impression that Elizabeth didn't want them to only appeal to the naturally-minded demographic, but appeal to a larger audience; women who like products that look, feel and work good.
Very quickly I noticed the attention to detail in aspects often taken forgranted down to the lovely branded letterpress card included in my package.  The pump top of the Face Spray and The Serum dispenses a perfect amount and the labels are all sealed, ensuring they won't be soiled shortly after use.  There are no chemical preservatives or synthetics to be found and the ingredients are straight-forward, totally natural and beneficial.

Face Spray By Elizabeth Dehn $28 : An ultra-cooling, supremely refreshing, perfect primer before applying The Serum, Shea Cream or simply anytime throughout the day when I feel like I need a pick-me-up or added hydration.  To be honest, I've been a bit overzealous with it because it's just too hard not to resist spraying myself with it whenever I can. The spray pump dispenses the perfect amount of liquid each time.  The only thing I wish was different about this was that it came in a bigger size because I've already used more than half the bottle in two weeks because I love it. A must-have for summer.  The aroma reminds me of chilled cucumber/orange water offered at the spa.

The Serum By Elizabeth Dehn $48 : Truly a fabulous multi-tasking serum created for all skin types.  There's absolutely no fluff in the bottle, each and every ingredient has a specific purpose and benefit to skin.   If you're looking for the glow this product will help you achieve it.  My skin seems to be instantly smoothed when I apply this.  I've been using this in lieu of moisturizer in the morning and I need nothing more.  Because only a drop is needed for my entire face, this bottle is going to last months - I anticipate about 3-4.  Be sure you apply only after you have lightly spritzed your face with Face Spray, this will assist with superior absorption.  Do not be afraid of applying pure oils to your skin - once you try it, you'll never go back.  The dominant aroma is damask rose.

Shea Cream by Elizabeth Dehn $54 : This is pure heaven for someone with dry skin like moi. With a frosting-esque texture, this whipped cream melts with the warmth of skin and creates a protective barrier that is a welcomed result for those of us with a dehydrated dermis.  Only the teeniest, tiniest amount is needed for use on the face.  I use just a bit of this at night on top of The Serum and I wake up the next morning with smooth, hydrated, happy skin.  It's also designed for sun damaged skin (i.e. sunburns), or those with acne and eczema.  It is a rare occasion when a product is geared toward both dry skin and acne so if you have such skin type I'm sure this will be welcomed news.  I've been using this for two weeks and I've barely scratched the surface.  If you strictly use this on your face, this could very well last 6 months or more. This is also fabulous for any dry areas...hands, knees, elbows, etc. The aroma is clean and fresh.

From the packaging to the ingredients, the line is brilliantly simple, truly effective and just plain gorgeous. I fully expect these products to spread like wildfire and be spotted in glossies, day spas and chic boutiques in the very near future.
