Review :: 10 Reasons Why You Should Try LEAP Organics Bar Soap And USDA Certified Organic Skin Care

Posted Jan 24 2011 4:05pm

The first time our postman tried to deliver these goods there was a lot of snow on the ground and more coming down on top of it, so we got a notice to pick the box up at the post office.  Three weeks ago I went to the post office to retrieve our mail and a post lady came walking out from the back with her nose glued to the top of a certain box.  "Mmmm....smells sooo good!" she said.  When I got in the car I immediately opened the box using the sharp part of my car key to get to the bottom of this mystery quickly.  I had to know who it was from because I also smelled the lovely aroma wafting from the box, in freezing temps mind you.  I quickly discovered the box was filled with the entire line from Leap Organics , which I had been expecting after I spoke with the Founder, Luke Penney, for two hours the week before.  The aroma the post lady and I smelled was seeping from three super cool and quirky soap boxes.  I opened each one and took a big, long sniff.  Ahhhh.....

It gets better.  Not only are these three soaps some of the best I've tried, Leap isn't messin' around when it comes to the total package.  They've dotted their I's and crossed their T's.  This brand is ready for primetime.  Actually, they're well on their way to primetime - their products are already on 65 Whole Foods and 125 independant retailers shelves.  So what's all the fuss about?!

You should try Leap Organics if:

1). You like cool, quirky,  award-winning  packaging.  You've never seen anything like this, especially not in the organic beauty sector. Guaranteed. I don't want to throw the soap boxes away because they're like little pieces of art - interesting, colorful, imaginative - packed with quirky sayings and relevant info.

2). You want to spend your money on certified organic products.  Every one of the skin care products are USDA Certified Organic and the soap bars are "Made with Organic Ingredients" approved (Luke sent me this cert).

3). You've got a tight leash on your budget.  The prices are budget-friendly!  $5 for soap bars and just $14-$17 for the skin care.

4). You have normal, oily or acneic skin.  Though these products say "All Skin Types" on the label, I believe they should be labeled "Normal To Oily Skin Types".  Luke agrees which is why he'll be changing the labels in the future and is currently working his "Dry and Sensitive Skin Type" line (which I'll be testing out soon to help him with R&D).

5). You want to support an independently-owned, green business.  Check out the many ways Leap is sustainable

6). You want to support a business founded by a guy who's passionate about true organics and who knows the difference between natural and organic. Luke & I have had great conversations about how it baffles us just how many people do not know the difference or care.  He does.

7). You don't like your bar soap to feel like a brick.  Leap Organics soap bars are a perfect size - rounded so they are very easy to fit in hand and wash with.  Other bars have hard edges and can feel awkward in hand.

8). You like products that look like and are made of food ingredients.  When I first saw the products online I instantly thought they looked like bottles of juice that you'd find out your local Whole Foods or health food store.  Perfect - that's exactly what Leap wants you think of them as - food for your skin.

9). You like your soap to produce a creamy lather and smell amazing.  These bars do both well.  LOVE them!!

10). You like to support companies that gives back.  Leap Organics is a member of 1% For The Planet where they donate at least 1% of annual revenues to environmental profits.  They've also partnered with Clean Air Cool Planet, Trees For The Future and The Student Conservation Association. The Review:

Leap Organics Sweet Orange & Grapefruit Facial Cleanser $15: Looks like a bottle of juice and smells like apples and oranges.  Very concentrated and lathers like crazy, so I learned to only use a tiny bit. Leave skin feeling fresh and clean. I believe this 6 ounce bottle will probably last 4-5 months.

Leap Organics Exfoliating Face Wash $16: Consistency and smell reminds me of orange spice muffin batter - which makes me want to eat it. Tiny bits of acai are what provides the exfoliating action.  I use this once or twice a week to slough off old skin.  This 4 ounce bottle will last probably 3-4 months.

Leap Organics Rosewater & Aloe Facial Toner $14: I feel like I should be drinking this out of a martini glass.  Smells like a citrusy cocktail.  Definitely for normal, leaning more toward oily skin.  Not for sensitive or dry skin.  This has a high alcohol content that will probably irritate senstive types and dry out dry types even more. (If you fall in the latter category, keep checking back because Leap is working on their Dry/Senstive line currently).

Leap Organics Lavender & Chamomile Daily Face Lotion $17: good for normal to oily skin types, leaves a matte finish with no oily residue.  This smell reminds me, almost exactly, of Revolution Organics All-Over Skin Creme (the two companies haven't worked together - just an interesting coincidence I noticed).

I honestly can't decide which bar soap I love more. I think I really love them all equally, because they all smell wonderful, lather richly and they're amazing for all over body washing and leg shaving.  You can't beat the good price too!  I love that the bars have been designed with rounded edges so it's very easy to hold in my hand (it seems organic soap hasn't entirely figured out that conventional soap bars have the design down - but now Leap does!).  And these are all triple-milled, vegan and produced using renewable energy.

Leap Organics Lemongrass Orange & Lime Body Bar Soap $5: As you may know, I just can't get enough lemongrass in my life. The scent just makes me happy!  This is no exception and it is in full effect in this bar.  Some bar soap lose their aroma half way in, but this is still smelling wonderful, each and every time I use it. The lather is rich and creamy, great for all-over body washing and leg shaving.

Leap Organics Lavender Clove & Orange Body Bar Soap $5: This is the bar my husband reached for when he saw it.  He loves it and has claimed it as  his own.  I also love the aroma so I sneak some washes in with it, but I know he sneaks my lemongrass soap bar so we're even.  He's even more picky than I about soap and this clearly passes his test and said "this packaging is one of the best you've received yet".

Leap Organics Eucalyptus Mint & Anise Body Bar Soap $5: This also smells amazing! The soothing blend of eucalyptus and mint is oh so refreshing and invigorating and a completely gender neutral aroma.
