Product Review : ChapStick Hydration Lock

Posted Oct 14 2013 8:45am
The newest member to the ChapStick family, Hydration Lock, has your dry cracked lips problem on serious lock down.  As in, its got this issue covered and corrected.

I'm obsessed with my lips NOT being flaky, dry, or chapped, especially when the fall and winter months are rapidly approaching and I know that issue is on the horizon.  I have used many a lip balm, moisturizer, treatment, you name it, I've tried it.  Even though my lips are nothing to write home about (no Angelina or Julia Roberts mouths here) I want them to be the best they can be because I LIKE LIPSTICK AND GLOSS.  And I like bright, bold, lip colors which in turn can only look good if they are applied to nice smooth hydrated lips.

So onto my journey with this newest formula.
Here is what it has to offer, its promises, and my opinions on both:

1. Clinically proven to moisturize lips.  Obviously.  Using this is better than going naked lips any day.
2. Keeps lips hydrated for 8 hours. That's a long time.  I would say definitely a strong realistic 4-5 hours before I felt I wanted to reapply.
3.  Locks in natural moisture and draws it in from outside sources.  I guess, but not sure what "outside sources" those would be...seems kind of vague...my shower steam, random rain burst, the air conditioner in my car, what?)
4. Gives lips a fuller and smoother appearance.  I don't know about fuller (which I could def use more of) but they do appear and look much smoother, which in turn gives you the illusion of a slightly plumper lip.  So yay!
5.  Provides instant smoothness and enhanced lip feel.  Yes and yes. Similar and possible repetitive statement from #4.
6.  Reflects light from lips in such a way that it reduced the appearance of wrinkles and fine lines.  That seems a bit of a stretch. But honestly at 35, I don't have any wrinkles or lines around my mouth...just yet, thank goodness.  So maybe I'm not a good judge of this benefit. Now if it could reduce the appearance of my forehead wrinkles, we'd be in business...ha!!

{My lips were stained from a red lipstick I had been wearing hours before I applied this balm,  just FYI. This combo actually turned out to be a nice natural lip look, no?!! ,}
This formula has a vanilla creme flavor which is barely noticeable (which I like), it's colorless (good, so I can add my beloved fuchsia lip gloss to without it changing its color), and contains CoQ10 & Vitamin E.  All of these are great attributes in my opinion.  And it feels amazing on, soft like marshmallows, the best way I can describe it:)  The only thing that would make this ChapStick even better, is to have an SPF included in it.  But that's me being really picky.

This little magic ChapStick is sitting nicely on my bedside table so I can apply it before I hit the sheets to help heal overnight and right when I wake up to start my lips off right!  At under 3 bucks, this lip treatment is a definite MUST HAVE for me and the coming cooler weather months ahead.
