"Ultimately what I wanted to achieve was an alternative that fused beautiful color, texture and design with organic, non-harmful formulas. I think it's the way forward" ~Kirsten Kjaer Weis
Natural and organic ingredients. Check. Natural and organic certifications to back up claims. Check. Luxe, high-end packaging. Check.
It's a rarity to find healthy ingredients housed in sophisticated, modern packaging, which is precisely why Danish-born, New York City-based makeup artist Kirsten Kjaer Weis created her completely refillable cosmetic line earlier this month. KJAER WEIS contains no parabens, petrochemical emulsifiers, synthetic colors or fragrances, which isn't an easy feat. The cream blush and lip tint are Certified Organic by PPCB , (Italy's Organic Certification authority), and the Eyeshadow is Certified Natural.
Prices range from $44 for eyeshadow, $48 for lip tint and $54 for the cream blush.
I love these chic red boxes the products come in!
Keep your exterior packaging and purchase refillables when your product runs out. A much more eco-friendly concept than simply using recyclable packaging.
I couldn't locate the ingredients anywhere online so I contacted KJAER WEIS directly and received a personal response from Kirsten Kjaer Weis with her complete ingredient lists without question or irritation, which I very much appreciate:
May Contain +/- Mica, CI 77491, CI 77891, CI 75470, CI 77492, CI 77499
This product is Certified Natural by CCPB.
Interview With Founder:
F+S: Can you tell me why you saw a need for a luxury natural cosmetic line?
KKW: To me there was a gap in the market for a combination, where women don't have to sacrifice when wanting to buy organic make-up, wether it being in regards to textures and colors or packaging. A product that has clean formulations on the inside, modern textures and colors combined with a design packaging, that can hold it's own in a high end department store.
F+S: Is your eyeshadow certified organic? I don't see any annotations indicating it contains any organic ingredients.
KKW: The eye shadow is certified natural, since it contains bamboo, which doesn't grow in a supervised agricultural environment, however it is a raw material that is completely free of fertilizer yet is considered a wild growing plant. With the use of bamboo, the organic raw materials are below 70% and therefore the eye shadow is certified natural. The carnauba wax is organic.
F+S: Can you address the concern about talc? Many woman who read labels try to avoid this ingredient as it is on many "Ingredients To Avoid" lists.
KKW: I'm aware of the concerns in regards to talc, but follow the CCPB and EU on what they allow and advise in regards to talc, which is considered completely safe to use, especially in the very small quantities used in the eye shadow. In the past, "borotalco" (body powder) raised concerns, but mainly caused by other ingredients contained in it: ima-eu.org/eurotalc.html
F+S: What is Octyldodecyl Stearoyl Stearate and why it is used in your eyeshadow?
KKW: It is a vegetable raw material admitted by CCPB that is used to keep the powders compact and prevent them from getting loose.
F+S: I'm curious why you chose an Italian certification body to certify your products?
KKW: I had found a great manufacturer in Italy, so it is produced there, therefore the certification from CCPB.
