Aepha asks… Hey – what do you think about the “Kiss My Face” cleanser line?
The Left Brain responds: I’ll start by quoting what the Kiss My Face website has to say:
Have you ever wondered what Adam and Eve used as a facial cleanser? We’re willing to bet it was 100-percent natural … just like this Citrus Cleanser from Kiss My Face. It’s formulated with lemon and lime oils for cleansing, and olive oil to smooth and soften your skin. There’s aloe vera in the mix to perform moisturizing duties. And to nourish your skin, there are vitamins A, D, and E. Apply with fingertips and then rinse away. It’s like treating your face to a little dose of paradise.
That’s an interesting story. Too bad they can’t live up to it.
I found the ingredient list on Drugstore.com (they were not listed on Kiss My Face.com) and it does not appear to be “100% natural.”
First, there are the parabens. While they are important preservative ingredients they are certainly not natural. Neither is propylene glycol for that matter. Adam and Eve certainly didn’t use this product.
Next, Lemon and Lime oils do NOT provide much cleansing. In this formula, ingredients like Sodium Borate, Stearic Acid, Isopropyl Palmitate, Cetyl Alcohol and Propylene Glycol, along with the oils, are providing cleaning ability. If anything, lemon and lime oil are potential irritants and you wouldn’t want them on your skin in the first place.
My final gripe is the statement on their bottles: “This product was created without animal ingredients, artificial colors, unnecessary chemicals, or animal testing.” This makes me wonder, who would put “unnecessary chemicals” in their formulas? Come to think of it, Vitamin D is naturally produced in your skin when it’s exposed to the sun. It certainly seems unnecessary to include this chemical in their facial wash.
The Beauty Brain’s bottom line
Kiss My Face may be a decent face cleanser but given their price ($10 for 3.75 ounce) and how fast and loose they are with their claims, I’d say take a pass. There are certainly more effective products that are less expensive.
