Fear not. Louis Vuitton haven’t taken their novelty accessories to the next level. You aren’t going to have to fight your way on to public transport in a flurry of feathers and chicken wire. At least not for the time being….
However, any beauty queen worth her bath salt will have noticed that this Autumn Winter season, the eyes have it. And, like the high waist and the shoulder pad, this little trend is going nowhere fast. From kittenish flicks to full on war paint, winged eye make up slunk onto the Autumn/Winter catwalks and has now well and truly marked its territory. Forget bronzing powder and a freckle pencil, this summer you’ll need an industrial sized kohl and a steady hand if you want to stay ahead of the fashion pack.
At Dolce & Gabbana, skin the colour of marble was the perfect canvas for the classic winged liquid liner, Marc Jacobs and Versace used eye shadow swept along the upper and lower lids, that ended somewhere near the model’s ear. While at Balenciaga (sigh!) eyeshadow resembled futuristic sunglasses, in all manner of stripes and colours (and they’re a lot cheaper than the real thing).
Just make sure you’re armed with a bucket of cotton wool buds and concealer before you get started. And don’t even think about recreating this look on the train…you’re supposed to look feline, not barking! – verity douglas
