High heels: How high is too high?

Blake Lively wearing Christian Louboutin (Pacific Coast News)

Recently, I was given one of the best gifts in the history of womankind: a gift certificate to the Christian Louboutin boutique. (I know!) Off I scurried to the Robertson Avenue boutique in West Hollywood, certificate in hand, excited to pick out my very own pair of red-soled dreamweavers.

But then I walked through the door, and saw in person the shoes that I’ve slobbered over countless times in red carpet photos of celebrities like Blake Lively, Victoria Beckham and Jennifer Aniston. Um. Babies are high. Like…

Really, really high.

According to this Shop Smart poll quoted on , 39% of women prefer flats above all else (me! me!), and only 25% of women have worn shoes that are 4 inches or taller. The writer of the Fashionista piece scoffs at this figure, finding it incredibly hard to believe that only a quarter of women have worn 4 inch shoes.

4 inches! Do you know how high 4 inches is?!

Kim Kardashian laughs in the face of 4 inch heels, bowling in Christian Louboutin Delic suede pumps

Am I the weird kid humming in the corner for thinking that heels above 4 inches (hell, heels above 2.5 inches…heels, period!) are sort of insane?

Still. They’re just…so…pretty…
