Queen Elizabeth's Diamond Jubilee - she celebrates 60 years on the British throne today

Your favorite Queen and mine celebrates 60 years on the throne today. This entire year will be a huge one for the royal family, with several Diamond Jubilee celebrations planned for Queen Elizabeth–to say nothing of the London Olympics hullabaloo–as Lilibet is now only 3.5 years away from overtaking Queen Victoria’s title as the longest reigning British Monarch. (Victoria reigned for 63 years and change. According to Wikipedia, the longest reigning Monarch ever was Sobhuza II of Swaziland, who reigned for 82 years and died in 1982. File that away for your next trivia night at the pub!)

Of course, today must always be a little bittersweet for Elizabeth. Sure, it’s the day she took the throne back in 1952–when she was only 25 years old–but it’s also the day that her beloved papa BertieGeorge VI, died.

Kate and William just got back from a vacation in Mustique. I found this photo online of a place on the island and about died. Isn't it gorgeous?

In other royal news, Duchess Kate is back from holidaying in Mustique and Prince William has been shipped off to the Falkland Islands for the next 6 weeks. Expect to see lots of sightings of Kate out and about in London, like this one from earlier today. She’s wearing a fur-lined coat–no word if it’s faux–and carrying a Mulberry Polly push-lock bag, which retails for between $1050-$1300. (I’m sure it was probably gifted to her.)

And finally, to keep up the royal theme, here’s a video I made highlighting my favorite royalty-related books. It was inspired by my friend Katherine of Kat’s Travel and Natural Beautee , who sent me the William & Kate Lifetime movie DVD recently. Two hours of my life that I’ll never get back…but who are we kidding? I loved every second of it.
