CVS Beauty Clearance Purchases

Posted Jan 18 2011 12:00am
One of my resolutions this year is to spend less money on makeup and skincare unless there's a good reason to get something, and I'm trying to set aside a smaller "Beauty Allowance" in my budget. That being said, I allowed myself to indulge in a little shopping at CVS during their beauty clearance.

I bought 3 of the L'Oreal HIP Kohl liners, since I've heard good things about them, and I've wanted to try them out for a while (but I couldn't justify the $14.00 price tag). These were on sale for $3.37 each! The only ones left were Gold, Brown, and Navy, so I got one of each. I also got the L'Oreal Voluminous Million Lashes, even though it wasn't on sale - it was just something that I wanted to try. I signed up for the CVS Beauty Insider thing, so I got an additional 10% off my purchase - what normally would have cost $50+ only cost $20 :)

swatches of the kohl liners - there is noticeably more fallout with these liners compared to the Guerlain kohl that I have, but a gentle wand tap removes most of the excess powder.

I wore the Navy kohl liner the other day and it lasted for most of the day :)

My receipt had some coupons attached to it, which included a $10 coupon off any Physician's Formula foundation, blush, or bronzer. I really want to try the Happy Booster Glow powder/blush they're releasing, but it looks like CVS isn't carrying them yet...I went to 3 different locations with no success. The good news is that this week Physician's Formula is on sale, for Buy One Get One 50% off, so I found some other items that looked like good purchases to maximize my savings...

Mineral Wear blush in Rosy Glow and
Shimmer Strips Gel Liner for Blue Eyes (navy, brown, and black)

Both of these items were not on sale, for $11.99 and $10.99, respectively. The coupon could only be applied to a non-clearance item, so I used it on the blush ($1.99), and the gel liners were half off ($5.49) as part of the sale. I essentially paid $8.00 for $22.00 worth of products here :)

I also bought 2 more clearance items - Organic Wear Loose Powder in Translucent Medium, and Shimmer Strips Blush in Healthy Glow. I saved about $20 between these 2 items (both were less than $4.00 with the clearance sale).

I was so happy to see some of the new Milani polishes that I grabbed Party of Five Glitters and completely forgot that Milani products were also on sale for Buy One Get One 50% off! Oh well, this was really the only thing I wanted from their line :)

I really have an addiction to glitter polishes.

Overall, I spent about $40 for everything, but it would have cost me close to $110 any other time. I have some navy liners to try, and gorgeous blushes to add to my ever-growing collection, so I feel ok to resist the temptation to buy more makeup....unless I find that Happy Booster face powder...and then I swear I'm done!

At least until February :)

Have you made any great purchases during the CVS clearance?
