Bath and Body Works Beautiful Day Collection Transports Me Back in Time

Posted Apr 04 2013 12:04am

I don’t think it’s any secret that I’m something of a fragrance snob. Not only do I like my scents musky, primal and downright dirty, but the more obscure the product, the better. As we discussed a few days ago, nothing’s worse than getting in the elevator with somebody and realizing that you’ve both spent $120 on the same perfume. Perversely, however, I have an aversion to expensive ancillary body washes and lotions–I prefer mass options to start my day, and the brand I inevitably gravitate toward is always Bath and Body Works .

Being in a Bath and Body Works store immediately surrounds me in a cocoon of yummy nostalgia, reminding me of my teenage years in Alpharetta, Georgia. In the good ol’ days, pampering meant taking a trip to North Point Mall so I could rummage through the bins, sampling every…single…lotion until I found one that was just perfect. Even now, when I walk into a Bath and Body Works store–or flip open a BBW shower gel cap in my bathroom, or light a BBW candle in my bedroom–I’m made calmer, happier, reminded of days gone by. Isn’t that exactly what fragrances are meant to do: create memories?

Bath-and-Body-Works-Beautiful-Day

I’m alarmingly addicted to the latest Bath and Body Works collection, called Beautiful Day. Beautiful Day is dew on the Georgia dogwoods in the morning, afternoons in the horse fields around my friend S.’s barn, evenings driving down dirt roads with the windows cracked and Dave Matthews Band blaring on the radio. The scent features green apples, wild daisies and fresh pink peonies–I mean, how can that not remind you of being young? It smells like spring. It smells like promise.

Now that I’m older and (ahem) wiser, I have quite a different life and quite a different daily routine–but I’m the same girl on the inside, full of the same quirks and mostly the same dreams. It’s easy to let your younger self float away from you, but I like honoring who I was then; it’s fun to have a morning moment to remember how far I’ve come, how much I’ve grown. A little sniff of that green apple, a silent appreciation for everything the past 15 years have brought me–oh, if only you’d known what was in store for you, dorky little girl!–and then I’m ready for my day. Who says you need expensive lotions and potions to relish a scent memory?

Bath and Body Works Beautiful Day Collection  is available online and at BBW stores and includes a Shower Gel ($11), Body Lotion ($11), Fragrance Mist ($14), Eau de Toilette ($29.50) and Triple Moisture Body Cream ($12.50).

Disclosure: While this post was sponsored by Bath and Body Works, as always, all opinions remain my own.
