However, as soon as the news hit the papers, the backpedaling started. Sarah Burton herself says, “I am not doing it,” and Jonathan Akeroyd says, “No, not at all. I am the CEO. I would know if we were doing it.” Meanwhile, Clarence House has responded: “We’re not commenting on the specific designer for the dress because Catherine Middleton wishes to keep the designer a secret until the wedding day.”
Obviously, it would be kind of a big, cool deal if Kate Middleton chose Alexander McQueen for her wedding dress. While I personally love her elegant, country-chic sartorial choices, Kate is hardly edgy or fashion-forward!

Fashion columnist Hilary Alexander of the Guardian says : ”If the leaked story is true…it is a bold and brilliant decision – not just for British fashion, but for the industry worldwide…However, there is an alternative view. What if the ‘Kate M.’ referred to in the ‘leak’ dropped by a colleague of Burton’s, in fact referred to another ‘Kate M’. Step forward, Kate Moss, who marries in the summer, and whose chosen designer, John Galliano, is currently in rehab?”
The plot thickens! This take by Hilary sounds much more plausible to me. Stay tuned…
