I skated when I was in high Scool - I'm 60 years old and I bought a pair of skates 6 months ago and found I had totaly forgotten how to skate. So I've been practicing. I took my first real lesson this week at the local skating rink. Of course, I was the oldest one of the group - a 5 year old was showing me how to "roll". It was very enjoyable and I'm glad I joined.
Dale, Congrats on getting back on the skates... are you using roller skates or roller blades? I took up rollerblading after not ice skating for 20 years. It took a bit of practice, but I got the hang of it in not too long. I do recommend wearing wrist guards as a minimun, and also elbow/knee pads for protection.
Have fun!
How are things going since you've relaced your skates? You should try rollerblading in the Spring and Summer sun too. It's pretty similar, and you get to enjoy the fresh air! I second Geoff's suggestion about wrist guards-those things are great!
Rollerblades - Yes, my brother and his wife rollerblade - when I visit them I bring my skates with the street wheels and we skate around the block. And I do where wrist and elbow guards ......
Thank you - I roller skate because at the rink I'm learning spins, balance, reverse, etc. I do put on my street wheels and skate in the park with bladers, so it works all around ------->
