Nobody Else in The Whole Wide World Has Herpes The Same Way You Do
I have said it millions of times, I have written it dozens of times, but I think it bears repeating here because maybe I’m not getting the message out as best I can, so here we go: Nobody else in the whole wide world has herpes the same way you do.
Many people write me all the time confused and frustrated because their herpes symptoms are not following the stereotype of how herpes is supposed to be. People have heard that you are supposed to have fewer outbreaks the longer you have herpes. This is simply misleading and inaccurate. There are many factors that can make your herpes symptoms worsen at any point and time- you could have unprotected sex with someone else with herpes, you could get a secondary infection like HPV or bacterial vaginitis, you could impair your immune system with substance abuse, if you are a woman over 35 your hormone imbalance could worsen herpes symptoms, etc, etc.
Herpes is an individual experience. It’s almost useless to compare your symptoms with anyone else’s. Sure you could hunt down herpes photos online, but herpes sores can take on a variety of forms, they can look like a cluster of pin-prick sized lesions, they can look like solitary pimples, they can look like fissures, they can look like patches of rough skin, they can look like ingrown hairs. Many MD’s cannot diagnose herpes accurately by visual inspection and must rely on blood tests or swabs, and so would you.
Your diet, race, sex, age, lifestyle, emotional health, spiritual practices, sexual habits, exercise routine, genes, the virulence of the strain or strains you are infected with, and the environment around you will all affect your herpes symptoms.
So instead of comparing yourself to others with herpes, your time and energy would be better spent getting to know your own herpes better. Pay attention to your body and understand what triggers your symptoms. Make peace with your virus and do the inner work necessary to keep the virus dormant. Practice safer sex with a condom/dental dam and a red marine algae antiviral gel. Strengthen your immune system and live a holistically healthy lifestyle.
