An attempt at a brief yet thorough bio of Mark Manz, the runner: I've been running basically since I could walk. In elementary school I was a nerdy kid who wasn't particularly athletic. In 3rd grade we had to run a timed mile for PE class. Not only did I win, I lapped everyone else in class. I had found something I was actually good at sports-wise. I've never been the most coordinated but I could run. And I could run a lot. After a brief intermission from running to pursue powerlifting in college I turned to my first love again. My current running life started in October 2007. As I was just getting over a bout of mono that sidelined me from all physical activity for three months and caused me to gain 15-20 pounds, I decided to train for my first marathon. After surviving that marathon in March of 2008, I was hooked for good. My blog chronicles my never-ending quest to push the limits of my physiology, endurance, and willpower. I've come a long way so far but, as is often the case in running, I still have a long long way to go.
