When it rains and pours on your wedding day…

Posted Nov 06 2011 11:37am

You get married.

Love in the Rain

Chris and I were married September 23 in Duck, North Carolina. It’s a day that will always be remembered as one of the best days of my life.

Rewind to our wedding week – to catch everyone up. We left for our wedding festivities late on Tuesday evening with Chris driving through the night and me being the slumbering passenger (see, isn’t he a great husband already!). We stopped at Chris’ best friend’s house (also our wedding minister) early on Wednesday morning for a couple hour nap. After a quick snooze, we made our way to the county office to get our marriage license and then got back on the road headed to Duck. I should also clue everyone in on the fact that it was raining for most of this time.

We met up with my college friends, Casey and Ryan, and Ryan’s parents for dinner that night. Thursday while it was still raining, we indulged in massages (for us), manicure/pedicure (for me and Casey) and met up with some of our wedding guest for dinner. We said many prayers for good weather. Friday, our wedding day and the first day the sun came out, started out with breakfast with Kent (Chris’ best friend/our wedding minister) and then I got my hair and makeup done and waited until the big event with my best friend, Lainee. The weather was really starting to perk up, the sun was out and by 3pm we were sure that we’d have our picturesque beach wedding. The photographer arrived, we started taking pictures and soon after, the skies opened up. Opened up is an understatement, Duck got about 4.5″ of rain that evening.

Our wedding location was moved to inside the lobby and we said the magical words – “I do.” Then, we danced, we toasted and we celebrated.

Our first dance. Song "God Gave me You"

Even though our wedding wasn’t what we exactly planned, it couldn’t have been more perfect. We counted our blessings to be surrounded by our family and friends on our wedding day and chalked the monsoon up to “lots of holy water blessing our marriage.”
