'twas the night before the tfk long training run

Posted Sep 11 2009 12:00am

Christmas is still a few months away but the shorter days and chillier temperatures make it very obvious that summer is over and it is just a matter of time before we once again plunge into the depth of winter. Tomorrow is another long training run with TFK and we are going to Van Cortland Park in the Bronx to run our 12 miles on the famous hills. We are meeting at 7am, which means I have to be up super early! Lauren, Lindsey, Stephanie and I are taxi-pooling to Columbus Circle where we will then take the hour-long subway ride. To survive the long run I needed more GU so after work I stopped at EMS. They were out but I made an even more exciting discovery...HONEY STINGER ENERGY GELS! Unlike other energy gels, the featured carbohydrate is honey, which due to its low-glycemic index does not produce the sugar highs and lows of other energy gels...and OMG it actually tastes GOOD! I have always hearted the taste of honey. I will take two with me and also two salt packets.

Now after my nice dinner of avocado and cucumber sushi (again) I am off to listen to my amazing visualization tape that my great friend Tom made for me. After two nights of listening to it, I was able to cut 10 seconds off my fastest average mile pace ever for a five-mile run. I am certain it had something to do with my improvement. Thanks Tom!:)
